CBAM Readiness: CBAM call for tender to establish the Common Central Platform (CCP)
The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is an EU initiative aimed at preventing carbon leakage by imposing a carbon price on imports of certain goods. To implement CBAM effectively, the European Commission has issued a call for tender to develop the Common Central Platform (CCP). The CCP will serve as a centralized digital system to facilitate the administration, reporting, and verification of CBAM declarations and certificates by importers and customs authorities.
This platform is critical for ensuring transparency, traceability, and compliance with CBAM regulations. It will enable importers to submit their carbon-related data, calculate their obligations, and manage payments securely. The CCP will also support data exchange between national authorities and the European Commission, streamlining enforcement and monitoring processes.
The call for tender seeks technical expertise to design, develop, and maintain a robust, user-friendly, and scalable IT infrastructure that aligns with the EU’s legal and operational requirements for CBAM. Establishing the CCP is a key step toward CBAM readiness, ensuring that the mechanism can be rolled out smoothly and effectively upon its entry into force. This initiative underscores the EU’s commitment to climate action by integrating carbon costs into international trade.
